Description
Chamomile is a medicinal herb used as a dietary supplement for sleeplessness, anxiety, and gastrointestinal conditions such as upset stomach, gas, and diarrhea. Some research has found that products containing certain combinations of herbs that include chamomile may be of benefit for upset stomach, for diarrhea in children, and for infants with colic.
Instruction
Chamomile can be ingested as a tea. Steep a tea bag or use 1 tablespoon of dried leaves in a cup of hot water for 5 minutes. Chamomile can also be taken in capsule form in doses ranging from 200 mg to 1600 mg.
Side Effects
Chamomile is known to be relatively safe but side effects can include drowsiness, vomiting, and allergic reactions. Avoid using chamomile if you are pregnant or breastfeeding and it also might make birth control pills less effective.
